Photos The Swedish Lutheran Church Choir of 1911 included three Grund daughters, Hedvig, Olga, and Alma. After serving as the choir’s director for one year, Gerhard Theodore Alexis (seated, center) pursued additional musical studies in Rock Island, Illinois as well as in Stockholm, Sweden, and returned to Ishpeming in 1916 to marry Olga.Sisters Hedvig and Olga Grund (viewer’s left to right, standing) with friend Ada Forsberg (seated), stylishly-dressed and formally photographed in Marquette, MI, ca. 1914. On an unknown but apparently important occasion, and one which required significant travel at the time from the Grund family farm near Ishpeming to the big city of Marquette. As it was not uncommon during Hedy’s time to send personal photos that had been made into postcards, this photo appears to have been made into a bifold card, perhaps to announce Hedy’s 1916 graduation from the Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. It may well be the photographer’s studio listed at the bottom of the card, and perhaps the “H Grund” below that is Hedy’s own hand.Ray and Hedy in their backyard, July 1950Ray and Hedy, Christmas 1968Hedy and Ray at home, ca. mid-1970s
